Don’t forget that you’re also a member of your organization. There are times when you need to prioritize yourself in order to prioritize the team. Great leaders will often commit time and energy outside of scheduled meetings to help members edit writings, prepare for events, and listen to complaints. These actions are commendable, and you should be willing to support your members above and beyond the duties of your office. However, I must caution you to remember that the team relies on you. Therefore, take the time to ensure that you are healthy and inspired. A burned out leader is like a dog chasing its tail; both expend enormous energy to go in circles. When needed, help the organization by helping yourself.
